The Parents guide to home grading
Home grading contributes to the success of the Kumon program in many ways:

On a personal level, by grading your child's work you will gain a more thorough understanding of Kumon. You will be able to see your child progress and will know when praise is deserved, or extra encouragement needed.

Home grading makes you an active participant in your child’s education.  Home grading means that your child will be able to correct his/her own mistakes immediately, rather than having to wait until the next class visit to do so.  Instead of continuing to make the same errors for several days, students can quickly realize their mistakes and get right back on track.  With home grading, your child will progress more easily and quickly.

Grading your child’s work also ensures that the work is also completed every day.  This kind of supervision can be important to make sure that students stay on track.

You Don't Have To Be A Math Wiz To Home Grade!

Answer books are provided for levels 2A and up.

New work is introduced during class visits, not at home.  Because of this your child shouldn’t have to ask you questions, and you should avoid coaching him/her.  Children feel best about getting an answer right when they know that they themselves were responsible for arriving at the solution.  However, if there is a problem, write the question numbers down and put it in the Kumon carrying case, so that it can be explained during the next class visit.

Please don’t point out your children’s mistakes while they are working, or help them correct mistakes once the work has been marked.  It is very important to let them finish all the assigned sheets before beginning to grade, and let them correct their mistakes without assistance.  They can learn as much from seeing where they went wrong as from what they got right.

Although you may not help them with the answers, remember to encourage your children with their work and praise their efforts, even if they made a number of mistakes.
